Hampton Bear travels the world for Rotary A Rotary Club's mascot is making friends and raising money for polio eradication programme.
With a world-wide social schedule that would leave many jet-setters weary, Hampton Bear, a Rotary Club of Southampton (UK, RI District 31110) mascot, is making friends and raising money for Rotary’s polio eradication programme.
Hampton has been feted at many local dinners and awards nights, and has visited Iceland, England, Las Vegas, cheered the Blue Jays at a ball game in Toronto, and this week, he heads to Dubai with a local pilot.
“The District Governor of Rotary gave each club a bear for the year and we have to take our bear to as many places as possible,” Rotarian Sylvia Sheard said in an April 9 interview as she showed Hampton around the Port Elgin Rotary Home Show in Southampton.
“We hope to put together a little book about Hampton’s travels before he is auctioned off, along with 57 other bears, at the Rotary District Conference this summer in St. Thomas,” Sheard said, adding all bear auction proceeds will benefit Rotary’s polio eradication efforts.
