Cleburne Rotary hosting fish fry as fundraiser The gala also includes a raffle draw for a $2,000 Apple gift card and a 50-inch TV, bounce house, face painting for kids and live music by a rock band.
The Cleburne Rotary Club (Texas, US – District 5790) will conduct its seventh annual Rotary’s Ragin’ Roundup fundraiser and community celebration from 5-8 pm Saturday at the Cleburne Conference Centre at 1501 W Henderson Street.
The event, a fish fry for the Cleburne and Johnson County area, includes a drawing for a $2,000 Apple gift card, a 50-inch TV raffle, bounce house, face painting for kids, a blood donation drive, dunking booth, a snake exhibit by Lone Star Reptiles and live music by Exit 51, a Southern rock and blues band hailing from the North Dallas area.
This is the third year the Rotary Club has brought in a full band for the concert.
The Cleburne Railroaders minor league baseball organisation will have an information booth with merchandise for sale.
The Railroaders will also provide merchandise for door prizes, as well as sell tickets.
The Railroaders will be giving away a dugout suite for 12 people for one game as a door prize.
“This event has turned into exactly what we wanted it to do — to create an event everyone in the community can be a part of,” Rotary Club President Renee Brockett said.
“The money raised from this event funds all of our projects for the next year and allows our club to participate in numerous local, state and international projects.”
The only cost is for the food and raffles. All other events are free. Besides fish, fries, hush puppies and chicken nuggets will also be served.
The club is made up of about 65 community leaders and business men and women who meet weekly at the conference center.
Rotary is an organisation of business and professional men and women united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
“We encourage anyone interested in Rotary and community service to attend, learn more about what we do and potentially become a Rotarian,” Brockett said.
“We are a nonprofit and all of the money we raise goes back to the community. This fundraiser allows us to provide services to those in need and we appreciate all of the community support we receive.”
Cost for the all-you-can-eat fried fish fundraiser is $10 each for adult meal tickets or $10 for two children 12 and under.
Tickets for the Apple gift cards raffle are $20 each and tickets for the TV raffle are $5 each. Participants do not have to be present to win.
Tickets will also be sold at the event. Only cash and cheques will be accepted, no credit or debit cards.
The drawing for the gift cards and TV will be about 7.30-7.45 pm. Door prizes will also be awarded throughout the evening.
All funds raised go to Cleburne Rotary Club programmes, such as scholarships (The George Marti Scholarship, The Lowell “Stretch” Smith Vocation Scholarships and the Luther C Turman Scholarship), dictionaries for third-graders throughout Cleburne ISD and some area county schools, academic achievement awards for Cleburne ISD students and water filtration projects across the world.
A video loop will be displayed throughout the event showing all of the projects the club is involved in as well as recognising sponsors.
