Interactors enjoy conference, learn the power of choice

Rotary Interact Annual Festival (RIAF) 2020, hosted by RC Baroda Cosmopolitan, RI D 3060, had specially outlined topics and discussion to make the 260 teenage participants from across Gujarat and parts of Maharashtra understand the power of choice. DG Anish Shah asked the students to understand that “everything in the end will be a result of the choices you make, so make the right choices.”

District Interact Chair Kalpa Rachh said, “To make the event more interactive and interesting for the students we had young achievers speak to them.”

Interact District Representative Aayushi Dholakia, who won the Miss Teen International 2019, Mira Erda, the first Indian woman driver to race in the Euro series and Umang Shah, a teen CEO addressed the students. All the three speakers have achieved success in the fields they are passionate about while continuing to go to school. “Almost all the students wanted to know how they did that?” said Kalpa.

The one-day conference was spilt into outdoor and indoor activities. The programmes included sessions on information on scientific toys project, waste segregation, an open-house discussion on the ‘power of choice’, followed by a short video vompetition on the topic, and a play on organ donation. “It was impressive to see the participants confidently talk about projects on sensitive issues like Good Touch Bad Touch, menstrual health and women’s safety,” she said.

But what was most heartening was to see the hearing-impaired and visually-challenged students participate in a unique Printmaking art activity conducted by artist Kavita Shah. Kalpa recalls that “they were the most enthusiastic participants and it added so much joy to the creative chaos in a room of full of children.”

Rotaractors of RAC Baroda Cosmopolitan conducted an exciting treasure hunt challenge for the students followed by cultural performances by different Interact clubs.

The conference ended with the National Anthem being sung by the hearing-impaired Interactors of Om Interact Club from Amreli.

Priyanjal Singhal, President of Interact Club of Billabong High School said, “This was a great experience. We got to interact with students from different parts of the State and I wish to be part of more such conferences. I thank my Interact club and our sponsor Rotary club for this wonderful learning experience.”
