The Great Ganga Run
Rotary International President Nominee Shekhar Mehta recently flagged off and participated in the ‘Great Ganga Run’— an endeavour organised by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti of the Government of India to create awareness among the public for water conservation and river rejuvenation. “The cause itself is outstanding where we are talking about rejuvenation of our great rivers which are the source of livelihood, ecology and flora and fauna. In fact, the very existence of people depends on these rivers,” he said.
The programme saw 16,000 participants, including 2,000 Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi in categories to cover 21 km, 10 km, 5 or 2 km. The Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju and Minister for Jal Shakti Rattan Lal Kataria, along with several other government officials, participated in the Run.
Rotary Club of Delhi Ashoka, RID 3012, sponsored T-shirts adorned with Rotary logo for the participants. PDG Ramesh Aggarwal coordinated the event for the Rotarians.

PRID P T Prabhakar (then WinS Vice- Chair) signed an MoU with the NMCG to support the government’s mission to save the Ganga and other rivers from excessive pollution.
