Sri Lankan Rotarian bags Pravasi Bharatiya award

Kumar Nadesan, a member of RC Colombo, Sri Lanka, since 1974, has been selected by the GoI for India’s Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award. The managing director of the 92-year-old Virakesari — the largest circulating Tamil daily published by Express Newspapers in Sri Lanka, Nadesan serves as Sri Lanka Press Institute chairman and represents the Newspaper Society of Sri Lanka. He also chairs the Press Complaints Commission of Sri Lanka, and is the president of the Global Organization of People of Indian origin (Sri Lanka).

This award is given by the President of India to honour people who have made exceptional and meritorious contributions in their chosen field/profession both in India and overseas. A recipient of RI’s Service above Self award, for several decades, Nadesan has been involved extensively in RC Colombo’s community service projects, has headed many of them and was the architect of the club’s award-winning project to set up the SLANA (Sri Lanka Anti Narcotics Association).
