Victor-Farmington Rotary Club (New York, US — D 7120) recently hosted its 17th annual Taste of the Finger Lakes at Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor.
A large crowd enjoyed food samples from local vendors and tastings from local breweries and wineries.
Guests bid on numerous items that were donated by the local merchants and supporters.
Taste of the Finger Lakes is Victor-Farmington Rotary’s main fundraising effort.
The proceeds sustain multiple service projects, scholarship awards and general club activities.
Numerous Rotarians participated in the project. Brian Pancoast served as master of ceremonies.
The club’s Rotary Exchange student, Claudia Denali, of Italy, helped to greet guests as they arrived.
In attendance were Rotary District 7120 Governor Don Milton, of Penfield Rotary Club, as well as district officers and Rotarians from the clubs in Fairport, Canandaigua, Red Jacket, Waterloo, Pittsford and Newark.
Bonnie Cottone, President of Victor-Farmington Rotary, thanked all attendees and participants for their support.
Avon Rotary Club recently hosted the District 7120 Rotary Training Assembly at Avon Senior High School.
Rotary clubs from the 72 clubs in District 7120 sent representatives to hear presentations from Milton and incoming District Governor Mike Slovak, of Bath Rotary Club, concerning Rotary goals and objectives for the coming year.
The assembly featured a series of workshops on Rotary Youth Exchange, polio eradication, the governor-elect hospitality programme, literacy and poverty, younger Rotary clubs, the opioid epidemic and Rotary grant programmes.
Victor-Farmington Rotary plays an active role in support of the governor-elect hospitality programme, which brings incoming Rotary governors from around the world to local communities in January each year to learn about life in the Rochester/Finger Lakes region.
Several club members attended that workshop. The programme is set for Jan 4-9, 2019.
Representing Victor-Farmington were Bonnie and Ross Cottone, Samantha Johnson, Galen Powers, Judy and Dave Luitweiler, Jim Crane and Karen Parkhurst.
The club’s monthly dinner meeting featured a presentation by Jean Gustaffero, of Family Promise of Ontario County.
Gustaffero, a retired special education teacher from Canandaigua, spoke about how the organisation plays in addressing the problem of homelessness in Ontario County.
The local group is a subsidiary of Family Promise, a national organisation whose mission is “to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.”
The local organisation established a support network of 13 churches in Ontario County that agreed to provide support services for homeless families that includes meals, overnight lodging, transportation and direct connection to local social service agencies.
Gustaffero answered questions concerning the background, philosophy and operational practices of the organisation.
