Rotary beer to support club projects in Canada The three-year-pilot project is in partnership with Wellington Brewery after the two clubs in Ontario got the approval from Rotary International to proceed with the fundraiser.

Two Rotary clubs in Ontario have teamed up to launch their own brand of beer as a fundraising project.

Clubs in Peterborough and Guelph are rolling out “Local Lager,” described as a “crisp, refreshing blond lager.”

“Extensive field research was conducted,” quipped Kevin Duguay, director with the Rotary Club of Peterborough.

The lager — which has an alcohol content of 4.5 per cent — was launched in Guelph earlier this month and in Peterborough on Thursday.

In Peterborough, the beer will go on sale on Friday at the Beer Store on Monaghan Road and will later be sold at other Beer Stores in the city.

Fifty cents from each tall boy can will be shared between the Rotary clubs for various local projects, with 10 cents specifically for Rotary International water projects.

The three-year-pilot project is in partnership with Wellington Brewery.

Duguay says he came up with the idea several years ago and had to receive approval from Rotary International to proceed with a fundraiser.

Initially, Duguay worked with Publican Brewery in Peterborough but when demand couldn’t be met, he teamed with the Rotary Club of Guelph and Wellington Brewery to reach both markets.

The cans feature the Rotary International logo with the organisation’s principles list on the back.

“We also wanted to use the can where we could to promote Rotary,” said Duguay.

The cans are $3.10 each or $18 for a six-pack and $69 for 24.
