Fun time on Rotary Day at Rock Creek Park Hundreds of children enjoyed water fun at the splash pad installed by the Rotary club along with the petting zoo and live music as part of the celebrations.

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect on Saturday for Rotary Day at Rock Creek Park.

Hundreds of children flocked to Rotary Island to celebrate the sunny skies at the splash pad.

Free hotdogs, cookies, snow cones and popcorn were big hits and a line formed at the dunk tank, where each kid got three balls to throw at the target in an attempt to knock unfortunate participants into the water tank below.

Rotarian Ken Goines was a particular favourite, and was plunged into the water again and again by kids with throwing arms like the pros, he said.

A petting zoo and live music rounded out the fun, all sponsored by the Rotary Club of Dawson County (Georgia, US – D 6910).

The club installed the splash pad at the park and hosts Rotary Day each year as a way to give back to the community.

Rotary Club President Pepper Pettit said that there were over 400 people in attendance on Saturday.

“We ran out of popcorn and snow cones,” he said.
“And we still had people coming in after we had packed up to go.”

Pettit said that many of the people who attended had been to Rotary Day before and were excited to be returning.

The free food and free splash pad were the main draw.

“It’s a big deal for a small place like Dawson County to have something like Rotary Island that’s free,” Pettit said.

Around 37 Rotarians and their spouses were present on the day to set up the live music, tents and concessions and make sure the day went without a hitch.

“I think Rotary Days is really cool,” Pettit said. “I think the Dawson County Rotary Club has a lot to be proud of.”
