AN ‘INIMITABLE’ motivational speaker thrilled members of Ayr Rotary Club at its latest meeting.

The ebullient Watt Nicoll provided a talk entitled ‘The Dream is much better than the Memory’ with reference to CentreStage in Kilmarnock.

Watt’s formative years were spent in Dundee and Glasgow, when during the 60s and 70s he was mainly known as a songwriter and folksinger recording several LPs and touring extensively with the likes of Billy Connolly and Hamish Imlach.

He has flourished in the world of motivational speaking, hitting the headlines when England soccer manager Kevin Keegan hired him to motivate the English national side before their 1999 match against Poland.

This has resulted in further work with Everton, Fulham, the Scottish National Team, and the likes of David Beckham and Tiger Woods.

Watt has also represented businesses of Coca Cola, Disney and Standard Life, and has been a speedway rider, author, piper, comedian, folk singer and motivational guru.

He turns 90 this year and has embarked on his ‘90 Mega Watts’ year to raise money for CentreStage Kilmarnock and Age Awareness.

He has aspirations to help feed the homeless, produce a new album, write a book, walk 90 miles and learn to swim.

David Hope gave a worthy vote of thanks.
