AMBLER — Knight’s Park in Ambler Borough has a brand new picnic pavilion as a gift from the Ambler Rotary Club in honor of its 100th anniversary as a Rotary Club.
On Saturday, June 28, members of the Ambler Rotary Club met in Knight’s Park with Mayor Jeanne Sorg and Borough Council President Glynnis Siskind, Council Vice-President Liz Iovine, and Council Members David Hui, Jen Henderson, Redmond Brubaker and Karen Sheedy to hand over the picnic pavilion to the borough.

The pavilion was a project of the Rotary, whose members live by “service above self,” to benefit the community and to recognize the 100th anniversary of the club. Rotary Past President Kate Harper noted that the location of the pavilion in Knight’s Park was especially meaningful since Judge Harold Knight was a founding member of the club and its first club president and the park is named for him.

She mentioned that several local businesses were honored as contributors to the project, whether in funds or in services for the pavilion’s construction and installation, including Ambler Savings Bank, Caddick Construction, Volpe Enterprises, Fastsigns of Willow Grove, Summit Advisors and Timoney Knox LLP. As an example, Harper noted, Ambler Savings Bank has had active members in the Rotary for its entire 100-year history.

The Rotary Club also acknowledged the contributions of its members in fundraising, planning and working to get the project done, noting that longtime member Paula Ritchie Kadel had left the club money in her will that helped fund the project. Rotary members had raised money in a variety of ways, including partnering with Ambler Main Street to sell beer at the Musickfest and Octoberfest, sharing the proceeds with Ambler Main Street and running a golf outing.

Centennial Fundraising Committee Chair Geoff Ries attended the celebration and was acknowledged for the work the Ambler Club had done to build the pavilion.
Mayor Jeanne Sorg thanked the Rotary for its partnership with the Borough in many things, including the picnic pavilion, such as its Main Street participation.
Then, the members of Borough Council and the members of the Ambler Rotary Club had a picnic lunch in the new Ambler Rotary picnic pavilion.
