A walk & jog event for the elderly

To promote well-­being and a healthy lifestyle among the elderly, RC Pune Pride, RID 3131, conducted a walk and jog event titled Ageless Wonders for senior citizens in partnership with ­Simple Steps, an NGO founded by ­Guinness World Record ­holder Ashish Kasodekar. His aim is to promote running across all age groups.

The event started with a warm-up exercise and Zumba dance to the tune of popular ­Bollywood music at the Pune University. With over 500 ­registrations and members from laughter clubs, the participants were charged up to go. Dr Hema, spouse of DG Anil Parmar, along with Pune’s Ironman Dashrath Jadhav, first flagged off the 10km run. It was followed by the 5km run, and finally the 3km group.

All the finishers were given a medal. “The joy on the faces of senior citizens after they received the medals showed that we have achieved our objective of the event, that is, making the elders realise ‘yes, we can also do it,’” said Sudhir Bapat, president-elect (2023–24), RC Pune Pride.
