A club’s youngest president lists service goals Rotary Club of Joondalup will focus on youth exchange, beach clean-up and take up issues related to homelessness in this year, besides inducting new members to support projects.
Youth exchange, a beach clean-up and homelessness issues will be some of the focal points for the Rotary Club of Joondalup (Perth, Austrlaia – D 9455) next month.
President Eliza Bourgault du Coudray (23) said the group of “community-minded individuals” met regularly at Joondalup Resort in Connolly and lived by the mantra of “service above self”.
The Connolly resident is the club’s youngest president to date and her goal is to lift its profile in the community through engaging meetings, community projects and developing networks with businesses and individuals.
“The club is currently seeking new members and there are a variety of ways to support and be involved with the club – either by becoming a member, hosting an exchange student or volunteering for a project,” she said.
“The Rotary Club of Joondalup was chartered more than 20 years ago and has been involved with a number of projects, locally and internationally.
“In more recent years, the club has sponsored students to attend the National Youth Science Forum and the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camps; selected students to go on exchange, and facilitated the exchange of international students through the Rotary Youth Exchange Programme.”
The club has also provided financial assistance to a number of projects in Thailand; organised beach clean-ups; and donated food and toiletry items to the Spiers Centre and Ebenezer Home.
The club will hear from past and present Rotary Youth Exchange students at its October 8 meeting at Joondalup Resort.
On October 22, it will host guest speaker Katie Liew, from The Underground Collective, for a talk about homelessness at the resort, with both meetings open from 6pm for a 6.30 pm start.
The club is also planning a beach clean-up at Mullaloo Beach on October 14, between 8.30 am and noon.
On November 12, Amelia Kennedy from Wasteless Pantry will speak to the club about how to reduce waste.
Brightwater Care Group’s music and wellbeing coordinator Hayley Antipas will explain why music is good for older adults cognitive and physical wellbeing, including those with dementia and Parkinson’s disease, at the club’s November 19 meeting.
