Wheelchair basketball tournament in Mumbai
The Rotary District 3141 Disability to Ability Avenue, along with RC Ghatkopar West, hosted the Women’s Wheelchair Basketball tournament at the YMCA Grounds in Ghatkopar. “Our aim in conducting the event was to highlight Rotary’s inclusivity initiative and celebrate the resilience, determination and sportsmanship of the differently-abled women. Many of them fell out of their wheelchairs, yet they were up and about in seconds,” said Avenue chair Kala Shridhar.
The event was held under the guidance of the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India, Wheelchair Basketball Association – Maharashtra and the Wheelchair Sports Association.
The event was supported by NGOs Project Mumbai who contributed towards the prize money, and ACC-RED as accessibility partner. RCs Deonar, Mumbai Neo, Bombay Pier, Neo Mulund Valley, Juhu Beach and Sobo were the co-hosts.
