Rajashree Birla, Chairperson of the Aditya Birla Foundation for Community Initiatives and Rural Development, recently donated Rs 50 lakh to the Thalassaemia Day Care Centre, an initiative of the Rotary Club of Thane Hills, D 3142, and BHEL. PRID Ashok Mahajan received the cheque on behalf of the club. She had donated a similar amount last year too.

Rajashree is the largest individual contributor to The Rotary Foundation. Her contributions to TRF has crossed over $11 million and she was honoured with a crystal at the Atlanta Convention by the then RI President John Germ.

The club runs the thalassaemia centre through its trust — Triumph Foundation. The Triumph Blood Bank, established in 2013, is equipped with NAT (Nucleic acid Amplification Testing) technology to provide the safest blood and components for thalassaemia patients and others in need of blood transfusion. The centre supports 75 thalassaemia children under its care. PRID Mahajan has been its guiding force ever since its conception. 
