On August 11, the 92nd birthday of PRIP Rajendra Saboo, the Bhavan Vidyalaya, New Chandigarh, was named Bhavan’s R K Saboo Vidyalaya. Saboo is the chairman of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan chain of schools, Chandigarh Kendra, since 1996. He has been associated with the educational institution since 1977.

The new school, with 1,350 students, is the third in the Bhavan group of schools in Chandigarh. It is spread across a beautifully landscaped five-acre campus, with modern facilities and equipment comparable with the best schools in India and abroad.

The Bhavan schools in Chandigarh have been acclaimed among India’s best for decades. The first Bhavan school in the city was established in 1983, says its secretary, PDG Madhukar Malhotra, who has been associated with Saboo “for 48 years and with Bhavan Chandigarh for 14 years as secretary.”

A video released by the school on Saboo’s birthday shows children lovingly wishing him in chorus. It ends with a warm note: “We are grateful, Saboo Sir, for the vision you gave us, the values you entrusted to us. Thank you for giving us more than a school; you have given us a legacy.”
