Taking Rotary to the Himalayas

With the aim to promote Rotary in the Himalayas, a road trip was undertaken by PDG Bagh Singh Pannu, RID 3090, and M S Bholowasia, a Rotarian, after seeking blessings at Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, Patiala, in Punjab in June 2026.

The Rotary awareness trip displayed a banner to ‘Save water, plant trees and Say no to plastic’ at iconic sites — Lepcha La Pass on the Indo-Tibet border; Hikkim Post Office — the world’s highest functional PO at the height of 14,567 feet; and on the Chicham bridge, the highest suspension bridge (13,596 feet) in Asia at the Spiti Valley, Himachal.

Also, the Rotarian duo visited Komic village, home to the highest monastery; Tabo and Dhankar monasteries; 1,000-year-old Kamru Fort, Sangla; Chitkul, the last village; Khab bridge, where Sangam and Sutlej rivers merge in Spiti; 500-year-old Gue Mummy Stupa; and Roula Cliff, Kalpa (9,052 feet). The road journey was conceived by RC Faridkot past president S P S Sodhi with the support of other clubs in RID 3090.

A CSR grant for freezer boxes

With a CSR fund of ₹20 lakh from Omsairam Steels and Alloys, Jalna, RID 3132 has distributed mortuary freezer boxes to 28 Rotary clubs (one each) across the 11 revenue districts of Maharashtra to serve their local communities.

Each club has handed over the freezer box to a local NGO after an agreement so that “the facility could remain available to the community whenever it was needed with no charge to the beneficiary family,” said PDG Suresh Saboo.

Moody Cool Panel, Aurangabad, the vendor, came forward to provide lifelong support for the freezer boxes. After eight months of follow-up, it was found that a total of 481 corpses were preserved by 28 freezer boxes across the revenue districts of RID 3132.
