October brings us to the beginning of the second quarter of the Rotary year. The first three months have seen clubs across our country turn plans into action, bring people together and begin projects that are making a difference. As we enter the next quarter, it is a good time to pause, look at what we have begun and ask ourselves: What more can we do?

October is Rotary’s Economic and Community Development month. For me, this focus area captures something fundamental about our work. When we help a person become self-reliant, create an opportunity for a young person, strengthen a community or enable a family to move towards a better future, the impact often goes far beyond the project itself.

The most meaningful Rotary projects are those that continue to create value long after the inauguration ceremony is over. Their full impact may never be measured. A project can outlive its creators and continue to touch lives for years. That is the kind of lasting impact we should strive for.

Rotary in India is strong. Our clubs have demonstrated what committed Rotarians can accomplish when they come together with purpose. But our ambition should extend beyond our own communities and our own country. Let us make the contribution of Rotary in India visible and significant across the wider Rotary world.

To do this, we need strong and vibrant clubs. And that brings us to membership.

Membership growth is not only about bringing in new members. It begins with retaining the members we already have. When clubs are active, inclusive and relevant to their communities; when members have meaningful opportunities to serve; and when good practices become part of club life, people have greater reason to remain engaged. Strong clubs naturally create an environment in which membership can grow.

And as we look ahead, we must keep our young people at the centre of our thoughts. The future of our country is young, and the future of Rotary must be young too. Interact and Rotaract give us the opportunity to introduce young people to Rotary’s values and spirit of service. Let us make that connection stronger and create a natural pathway for the next generation to become Rotarians.

The first quarter is behind us. The road ahead is full of opportunities. Let us build on what we have started. Let us bring greater energy to our service, greater purpose to our clubs, and greater ambition to our collective contribution.

There is much to accomplish. Let us move forward — together.
