Skill development for women
Under its Women’s Empowerment and Skill Development project, RC Mumbai-Bhandup, RID 3141, has trained 190 women in sewing and fashion ornamentation courses, equipping them with industry-specific skills to get them more gainful employment.
Eighty women have completed their training in two batches so far. “We are committed to ensuring a sustainable livelihood for the trainees, and garment industries have expressed their willingness to recruit our candidates. We are confident of 75 per cent placement for the first batch of 36 beneficiaries in the garment sector,” said Seema Kshirsagar, project chair and immediate past president.
Child heart surgeries at Mumbai hospital
RC Dombivli East, RID 3142, supported the heart surgeries of 64 children at the Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Khargar, through a global grant project worth $107,000. RC London, Ontario, RID 6330, is their main global partner. Local clubs — RCs Kalyan, Kalyan Riverside and Dombivli Winners — and global clubs, RCs St Clair, RID 5810, US, and Ajax, RID 7070, Canada, also participated. The GG team led by Arun Ashtikar included Ramesh Gupte and TRF director Abhay Kulkarni, and along with the then club president Sandeep Gharat strove hard for the success of the project.
Eye surgery camp in Mauritius
Over 100 patients were screened and 48 shortlisted for surgery at the five-day vitreoretinal surgery camp held at the Subramani Bharati Eye Hospital, Moka, in Mauritius by RC Thane, RID 3142, in partnership with RC Phoenix, RID 9220, Maurtius.
Dr Karan Kumaraswamy and Dr Shubhank Khare, from India, did the surgeries with support of local doctors and paramedical staff. Mauritian health minister Anil Bachoo visited the hospital and interacted with the patients and the doctors. RC Thane immediate past president Girish Vartak was present at the hospital.
High-tech equipment for Kerala hospital
A range of high-tech medical equipment was installed at the Government Taluk Hospital, Puthenvelikkara, by RC Greater Cochin, RID 3205, through a GG project worth ₹28 lakh, in partnership with RC Wolverhampton, RID 1210, UK.
Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan inaugurated the new equipment in the presence of government officials, healthcare professionals and Rotarians.
Earlier, the club, along with the same global partner, did a GG project worth ₹26 lakh to provide an ultrasound scanner, biochemistry analyser and physiotherapy equipment to the hospital in 2023–24.
