Rotary expands a school in Trichy
RI Vice President and RID M Muruganandam inaugurated a building (1,200 sqft) at the Government Aided Middle School in Trichy, constructed by RC Tiruchirapalli Fort, RID 3000, at a cost of ₹20 lakh. The new building has additional classrooms and gender-segregated toilet blocks. The then DG J Karthik and DGE R Subramani were also present.
Butterfly Garden at a Pune school
More than 40 saplings were planted on the premises of the RMD Sinhgad Spring Dale School, Warje, by RC Pune Royal, RID 3131, to create a Butterfly Garden. In a joint initiative with the Vanadevrai Foundation, Kothrud, the then club president Medha Kulkarni and school principal Asha Dhore inaugurated the planting drive.
Project Butterfly Garden will create a natural habitat for butterflies with carefully chosen plant varieties so that they can lay eggs on these plants and begin their lifecycle. “Along with butterfly-friendly plants, medicinal and Ayurvedic herbs were also planted,” said Medha.
While a drip irrigation system will be used, info boards will display Marathi and botanical names of the plants for educating the students. A small pond is also being created.
High-tech device, ICU at Bengaluru hospital
A Cryostat machine for accurate testing during surgery has been donated to the Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital by RC Bangalore Junction, RID 3192, with a CSR grant from Radhyshyam Rander, a club member.
IPDG Elizabeth Cherian and donor Urmila Rander inaugurated the diagnostic machine in the presence of Rotarians. A Step-Down ICU facility was also set up at the hospital with a CSR grant of ₹41 lakh from Fujitsu Research India. Project chair Ajay Bhauwala coordinated for the new facility.
An ICU facility at Mumbai hospital
IPDG Harsh Makol inaugurated a 10-bed intensive care unit (ICU) at the Ashray Charitable Trust Hospital set up by RC Dombivli East, RID 3142, through a CSR grant from Dr Acharya Laboratories. The ICU is equipped with state-of-art facilities including three ventilators.
The project cost ₹70 lakh. The club’s CSR team led by its chairman Pramod Shenwai, project director Anand Acharya and his team were guided by the hospital leadership in executing the medical project. It was partly funded by Lata Shastri. IPP Sandeep Gharat, then club secretary Vinayak Agte, Usha Acharya and Sunanda Hegde were present.
