About Us

Rotary News is the official regional magazine for India recognised by Rotary International. Published by the Rotary News Trust, based in Chennai, we have a subscription base of 1.5 lakh Rotarians across India. The magazine is published monthly in three languages — English, Hindi (Rotary Samachar) and Tamil (Rotary News Tamil).

Beyond its subscribers, Rotary News reaches an estimated six lakh readers; we also send a few hundred complimentary copies to   libraries, educational institutions, corporate offices, hospitals and doctors’ visiting rooms.

By advertising in Rotary News, you can reach HNIs in India. 
Other magazines published online by us include Rotary News Plus (monthly) and Rotaract News(quarterly), which highlights Rotary and Rotaract service welfare projects. 
The Trust is managed by a Board of Trustees, comprising current and past Rotary International Directors from India

2025
Rotary News enjoys a combined circulation of 1.54 lakh subscribers
2018

Rotary News Tamil was introduced, with a subscription base of around 25,000 readers. Rotaract News, a quarterly digital magazine, was launched to highlight Rotaract service projects and events. Rotary News Plus, a monthly online magazine that showcases additional Rotary service projects, was also launched.

2000
Circulation rose to 58,200 for Rotary News and 13,350 for Rotary Samachar.
1999
The magazine was printed entirely in colour. Subscription numbers grew to 47,650 for Rotary News and 9,800 for Rotary Samachar, at a time when India had 57,000 Rotarians across 1,600 clubs
1998

PDG Krishnan V Chari was appointed Trust
secretary and editor, with PDG Madhura
Chatrapathy serving as chairperson of the Trust.

1990
The publication was relocated to Madras.
PDG B Viswanatha Reddy took over as editor
and secretary of the Rotary News Trust.
1988
The magazine’s operations moved to Bombay,
under the leadership of PDG Jyotindra Vakil,
who served as both editor and Trust secretary.
1984

RI officially recognised Rotary News and Rotary Samachar as the regional magazines for India. At the time, their combined circulation was 15,000 copies.

1983
The Hindi edition, Rotary Samachar, was
launched at the Rotary Zone Institute in Calcutta
by then RI President Elect William Boyd.
1982

The Rotary News Trust was established, and formally took over the magazine from the Manipal Group; PDG Panduranga Setty served as its first secretary.

1970

The Manipal Group acquired the magazine from Hosali, who however continued as editor. PDG Ramesh Pai served as its publisher.

1952

PDG Debu Hosali of Bangalore who was
publishing MysIndia took over its operations.
The first issue of Rotary News was published on
July 15, 1952, from the Hosali Printing Press.

1950

The magazine ceased publication due to
closure of Rotary International’s Middle
Asia office in Bombay.

1940

MacRae emigrated to South Africa; the
magazine continued under new Indian
ownership.

1930

Rtn Alistair MacRae founded The Eastern
Rotary Wheel, published by A MacRae &
Co, Bombay.
